Jackson Hole News & Guide

A veteran of the Jackson Hole art scene, JenMarie Zeleznak’s work has frequented the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s annual Western Visions fundraiser and debuted in town at Diehl Gallery’s 10th annual Fete in 2014. Her show opening this weekend, “Relational Resilience,” explores the living world and coexistence as animals and geometric sequences inspire conversations about instinct versus intuition.

The gallery describes Zeleznak’s juxtaposition of geometry and the humanlike qualities seen in the animal portraits as tracing “the delicate tensions between proximity and distance, attention and intuition — revealing how relationships, across species and across moments, are shaped by what is felt rather than spoken.”

The solo exhibition gives the impression of a secret cartography, revealing an ancient and lost relationship with wildlife. Zeleznak’s watercolor pencil and graphite works create a network of interdependence across mediums, what the gallery refers to as a “quietly charged space.”

Zeleznak holds a BFA in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. Her work has been shown at the Gibbs Museum of Art in Charleston and the Soren Christensen Gallery in New Orleans, as well as Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and Museum in Tubac, Arizona.

“Relational Resilience” will run through Valentine’s Day. The opening reception will be held this Saturday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the gallery.
